Pat Matthews, Ph.D.

Pat Zibung Matthews, Ph.D. is one of those souls who "walks alongside" in life’s most difficult transitions. Specializing in those places on the journey requires a willingness to be with a patient or family member with whatever care is necessary at the time. With over 35 years experience as a clinical psychologist, as well as experience as a chaplain and a palliative care specialist, Pat brings a wealth of understanding of the grief and changes associated with dying. Sometimes it is a long process, taking years of our lives and changing our families forever. Sometimes the suddenness and shock takes our breath away. When we are caregivers and main supports for those who are ill, have dementia, or are battling big health challenges, we suffer as well….and so do those around us. We may need help with our families, our relationships and the person who depends on us more than ever. If we are worried about a parent who is lonely, isolated or depressed, we may need a helping hand, someone to fill in the voids. Pat will help you find resources and inner strength for these times.
Pat completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. Later in her career, she completed a Masters of Divinity at The Iliff School of Theology in Denver to work as a palliative care chaplain with people who were terminally ill and with the families and friends who care for them. She has served as the co-chair of the Committee on LGBT Concerns of the Washington State Psychological Association and supervised clinical graduate students at the University of Washington.
