Gerald Showalter, Psy.D.

Dr. Gerald Showalter completed his graduate training in clinical psychology and neuropsychology at the Florida Institute of Technology. He completed a Residency in Clinical Psychology and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He has provided services in private practice since 2000, and has held management positions in the provision of behavioral health and brain injury services. He managed a postdoctoral fellowship program in Rehabilitation Neuropsychology in collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia, where he held an adjunct faculty position. He is currently a member of the medical staff at Augusta Health and at the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center. His clinical interests and areas of expertise include evaluation of memory loss and dementia, evaluation and rehabilitation of traumatic brain injury, testing for attention deficit disorders, clarification of capacity for decision making (e.g., in circumstances of suspected or confirmed intellectual disability and/or advancing dementia/Alzheimer's disease) and assessment of parenting capacity. Dr. Showalter is the Founder and Director of Valley MedPsych and provides services in our Waynesboro and Harrisonburg offices.

Beginning in January 2023, Dr. Showalter opened a new office in Melbourne, Florida under the name Melbourne MedPsych. He is currently seeing patients at Melbourne MedPsych in Florida as well as at Valley MedPsych in Virginia on alternating weeks. Dr. Showalter anticipates being situated solely at Melbourne MedPsych by the end of 2023.
